Main Ideas
To successfully master this module, you need to:
A. Analyze the influence of different cultural perspectives on the
actions of groups.
Cultural perspectives are the set of attitudes, values and ideas belonging
to a cultural group. Consider the different cultural perspectives that
influence the way people feel about and act as players in historical events.
B. Analyze the consequences of oppression, discrimination and conflict between
cultures.
Throughout history, people of one culture have oppressed the people of
another. Genocide is the systematic killing of large numbers of people on the
basis of ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, social status or other
factors.
C. Analyze the ways that contacts between people of different cultures
result in exchanges of cultural practices.
Due to advances in transportation and communication, we have witnessed a
rise in the pace and scale of cultural diffusion. Cultural diffusion refers to
the spread of different cultural beliefs and practices throughout the world.
Our modern world has experienced significant cultural diffusion. Faster and
cheaper transportation has allowed more people to travel around the world.
Greater trading of regional products has also contributed to cultural
diffusion.
